My Quick Review: In The Realm of the Senses

The  1976 film, In The Realm Of The Senses, caused a sensation with the movie-going public and movie critics world-wide due to its explicit sex scenes.

In The Realm Of The Senses was released during the mid-1970s, a time when porno films were pretty much mainstream. Marilyn Chambers, super hot star of the classic Insatiable) was a huge celebrity. Deep Throat was playing in regular cinemas.

In The Realm Of The Senses, was different because it’s a legitimate drama with explicit sex scenes, not a porno movie filled with mindless (but awesome) wall-to-wall sex, like, say, Inside Desiree Cousteau (a great porno from the 1970s). Senses has real characters and a real storyline. The masses were confused.

Senses tells the story of an ex-prostitute who has an obsessive love affair with the master of the household.

The movie shows real sex, real penetration, and um….a woman swallowing up a hardboiled egg using her…um…well….let’s just say she didn’t use her mouth!

My Rating: B+ (plot, direction, acting, lighting…)  A (for the graphic sex)
